Partner Structure

The Barang Regional Alliance is the Central Coast Aboriginal community’s representative voice to government. As an alliance, we bring together 7 ‘Opt-In’ Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations from across the region, with equal board representation, supporting the Alliance as a representative regional governance structure.

Our Board supports the Barang team to understand the community’s voice to represent the needs of the region, and to assist members to deliver effective services. Barang engages local, state and federal governments to meet the community’s social and service delivery needs and achieve the regional development priorities of our community.

Further to formal relationships with the tiers of government through structured reform programs, Barang develops strategic partnerships and relationships with non-government partners including in the NGO, academic and corporate sectors.

We have established strategic partnership with the University of Newcastle’s Wollotuka institute, Indigenous Data Network (University of Melbourne) and the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) through the establishment of our Regional Aboriginal Data Network, Ngiyang Wayama.

At a local level we maintain working level partnerships with the Central Coast Community Legal Centre, Regional Youth Support Services, University of Newcastle, Central Coast Aboriginal interagency network, and Aboriginal and employment interagency.

NAISDA Dance College

Changing the future of Indigenous Creative Learning.

Since 1976, NAISDA has nurtured the cultural and artistic development of thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students; keeping culture strong and empowering First Nations peoples and communities through training, skills and careers.

From a small, inner-Sydney dance workshop, NAISDA became the birthplace of Bangarra Dance Theatre and today has evolved into Australia’s leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts training organisation.

NAISDA offers full-time, nationally-accredited education and qualifications in dance and performance for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 16 to 26. Our unique teaching model has been developed in powerful partnership with Communities, Elders and Cultural Tutors. Their guidance and sharing of cultural knowledge and practice places culture at the core of the NAISDA curriculum.

Our national home is on Darkinung Country in regional NSW, and our connections reach out across Indigenous Australia to the many communities of our student cohort, Elders and Cultural Tutors.

The founding motivation for The Glen was the suffering of the community at the hands of drugs and alcohol addiction. The Glen was and still is today, especially interested in trying to get men (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) out of the criminal justice system and into treatment for their drug or alcohol addiction (which causes the offending behaviours).
